Laurent Lassource art & ceramic works
Laurent Lassource is a visual artist living in Monaco. He started working on his art concept, based on the link between art and food, in 2004, through which he sought to distance himself from consumerism and how it now permeates art and art instruction in French art schools (such as the ESAD in Tarbes).
The artist argues that the deconstruction of art, inspired by the philosopher Jacques Derrida, is a completely « woke » method which reflects the thinking of our times. Laurent seeks to position himself against this teaching of art, replete with limits and constraints, which he feels negates the true nature of art, which is freedom. Hence the artists’s own rueful commentary : the central and monumental piece « Home Digestion », a conduit of clay intestines, created in 2005.
Since 2007, the sculptures of Laurent are focused on the theme of water, its travel through time and space, set against its consumption. In the series « Tabl’eau », we find ceramic conceptual works such as « Alphabet », and the fountains entitled « Chut d’eau » and « Star Water », as well as paintings made with ice, the « Ice Paintings », and some built with water bottles in the series « Roul’eau ». There are many parallell projects during this period.
In 2020-2021, while pursuing advanced studies at Côte d’Azur University in Nice (Master 2 EMIC), he creates a utopian museum named MAD, or Museum of Art and Deconstruction, and presents his memory « Identity of an Imaginary Contemporary Art Museum Deconstructing between Violence and Utopia ».
Says Laurent about his work : « All my work is utopia ».
